For those who had watched the Olympics opening ceremony in China on 8 August, 2008, I am sure all of you are just as impressed as I was at the beautiful, melodic voice of the 9-year-old girl who sang "Ode to the Motherland". I thought to myself, "what a talented young girl".
Imagine my disbelief and disgust when I found that the girl was only lip-syncing. The real singer was a 7-year-old girl whom the Chinese officials deemed to be not pretty enough to be on the stage.

What values are the Chinese officials trying to teach the young generation? That looks is the most important thing to have? That if you have talent but have no looks to go with it, you are not good enough?
And if they must keep up appearances, at least have the decency to acknowledge the real singer. Credit must be given where credit is due.
