A Clash of the Hokkien Langs

Lee Chong Wei will meet Lin Dan on Sunday, 17 August, 2008 at 8:48pm in a match for the gold medal. Hmmm.....another prosperous number. I must say, China is rather fixated with the number "8".

Anyway, Lin Dan is from Fujian, China. That makes him a Hokkien (a Chinese dialect) while Lee Chong Wei is from Penang, Malaysia. He is also a Hokkien. This is going to be a clash of the Hokkiens.

If Chong Wei wins, he stands to get a whopping RM1million from the Malaysian government. And I will not be surprised if he also gets a Proton Perdana, and a house, too.

But that's beside the point. Malaysia, despite being a badminton powerhouse, has never clinched a gold medal in the Olympics before. It would certainly not hurt if Chong Wei could bring home the first gold medal. Who knows, the government might even declare Monday a public holiday to celebrate the nation's historic triumph.

So, don't forget to tune in at 8:48pm on Sunday for a match which promises a lot of adrenaline. Go, Chong Wei, go!!!
